UW PC Gamers

LanFEST 2.1

Hardware Workshop

Recently I was able to get a hold of the officers of the UW PC Gamers club, and discovered that they had a pretty significant LAN that is to be held on February 25 and 26.  I myself have always dreamed of putting on a large LAN, but time, money, and effort have all held me back.  This is a good group of dedicated individuals who have worked very hard to build up their LanFESTs from a dozen computers  to what looks to be 110+ gamers.

I thought I would take this opportunity to hold a computer hardware workshop, and hopefully expose a new group of people to the joys of computer enthusiasm.  The workshop will cover the importance of good memory, good power, and good cooling, as well as how to tweak the individual computer to the greatest performance attainable.  There will of course be a discussion of overclocking, heat, 3D graphics, and the latest CPU's and chipsets that are right around the corner.

To further enhance the deal, I have already signed up a few sponsors for the workshop.  Corsair, Tyan, and NVIDIA are already on board, and we are discussing what possible hardware can be given away.  We already have t-shirts, posters, and other sundries on the way from these groups, so nearly everyone who attends should come away with something.  Once I get a better idea of what will be present, I will post some of the more interesting prizes here.

Questions will be welcome during the workshop, and active participation is a must!  This should be a very fun and informative session!

Only attendees of the UW PC Gamers LanFEST will be able to attend the workshop.  To sign up for the LAN, please visit www.uwpcgamers.com for payment options.  The workshop itself will be free for any attendee of LanFEST 2.1.

Prizes so far: hats, pens, pocket tools, stickers, case badges, shirts, posters... that kind of swag.

Hardware for give-away: Corsair TwinX1024 XMS3200 XL Pro DIMMS, Abit Fatal1ty AA8XE motherboard.  Hopefully a few more pieces will be delivered in time for the LAN!
