Conclusion While the $150 pricetag of these headphones may scare off many users, they truly will get what they pay for. When other reviews I have read compare the $150 SR-125’s to the $300+ Sennheiser products, and the SR-125’s come out on top by a large margin, I think that in itself speaks volumes. I know that with the headphones I have around here, and the Sony Reference series I have listened to, the Grados simply outclass the competition at this pricepoint. The fine detail and overall sound quality are truly mind blowing. I had never listened to anything so pure.
As modeled by my wife, the SR-125's fit over the ear quite comfortably (once they are broken in). The user will not be confused as to which side is which (note the big "L"). Even at higher volumes my ears rarely became fatigued, and when they did, it was more due to the source material than the headphones. A poorly recorded MP3 or CD will certainly wear on the ears, but while listening to good content it was never a problem. The Grados were not designed to be terribly comfortable, but they were designed to be some of the best headphones out there. I think John Grado and the gang has done an amazing job, achieving something that larger companies have yet to be able to do. Grado has brought to us a hand manufactured, audiophile quality set of headphones that are less than $150 a pair. Sony, Sennheiser, and the rest have yet to produce anything that can match these price points with the quality delivered. This is definitely the case where the little guy is better and faster than the giant corporations. Overall Score: 98%
