Quake 4 Q4 takes the Doom 3 engine and spiffs it up a bit. As such, the performance requirements are a bit stiffer than Doom 3. I found that running a timedemo in Q4 though causes some effects to not be rendered, so I took a small run-through using FRAPS to get an average. High quality settings were enabled along with 2X AA and 8X AF.
The 7600 GT again takes a very strong lead, and once more the 6800 GT gets closer when it hits 1600 x 1200. Still, the 7600 GT is significantly faster at each resolution. I honestly did not expect the old 6800 GT warhorse to be so overwhelmed by this new midrange card. It is also very daunting to think that the 7600 GT can almost play Quake 4 at 2048 x 1536 with 2X AA fairly smoothly. Fable - The Lost Chapters This X-Box port was totally redone to support DirectX 9, and as such has some very complex shaders and shadowing effects. A manual run-through of the first village was performed with FRAPS recording the average framerates. Max quality settings were enabled with 2X AA and 8X AF.
Considering all the previous benchmarks, it is no surprise that the 7600 GT comes out ahead. With its faster core and more efficient pixel shading pipelines, it simply walks away from the 6800 GT in any shader heavy title.
This side view shows the copper fins on the heatsink, as well as the dual DVI and S-Video/HDTV/Component output. This card does not feature VIVO. Far Cry This is still one of my favorite games, and the folks at Crytek continue to enhance it with new features. The latest set of enhancements done to Far Cry included support for SM 3.0 and FP16 HDR. Max quality settings were enabled as well as 8X AF. Unfortunately, the latest series of cards from NVIDIA do not support anti-aliasing in conjunction with FP16 HDR. The Regulator timedemo was used for this test.
HDR rendering is very bandwidth intensive with both main memory and the frame buffer itself. The 7600 GT yet again takes a commanding lead over the 6800 GT at both resolutions. Half Life 2: Lost Coast Continuing along the HDR scheme, Valve’s version of HDR does not utilize the FP16 buffer. This means that even NVIDIA parts can use Valve’s HDR with anti-aliasing. Max quality settings were used with 2X AA and 8X AF enabled. A custom demo was made using the Lost Coast map.
We finally see the 6800 GT almost catch up to the 7600 GT at 2048 x 1536, and this is most likely to the massive amounts of bandwidth this title requires to do both AA and HDR effects. At every other resolution the 7600 GT takes a big lead. World of Warcraft This incredibly popular MMORPG does have some nice DX9 features, but is still easy enough on older cards to be enjoyable. Highest quality settings were used with 2X AA and 8X AF. A manual run-through in the forest outside of Goldshire was captured by FRAPS.
At every resolution the 7600 GT has a massive lead over the 6800 GT. It is actually quite stunning how much faster the 7600 GT is in this title. For those who own a 6800 GT, and are not happy about their performance in this game, then the 7600 GT might in fact be a valuable upgrade. Battlefield 2 The sequel to Battlefield 1942 features a cutting edge DX9 engine with plenty of shader effects. Max quality settings were enabled with 2X AA and 8X AF enabled. A manual run-through of Mashtuur City was done with FRAPS capturing the average FPS.
The 7600 GT yet again flexes its muscles, and it seriously stomps the 6800 GT into the ground. The improved pixel shaders and faster core clock make the 7600 GT untouchable when pitted against a 6x00 series of card (not to mention other cards currently out on the market at its pricerange).
